Repatriation of Human Remains
Project Introduction
The discovery, excavation and repatriation of the human remains of the victims of the overseas forced mobilization is critical to restore the dignity and human rights of the victims and their bereaved families.
Since liberation in 1945, human remains of many Korean victims have been returned to Korea but numerous remains still remain scattered throughout several Asian countries.
The Foundation has repeatedly pushed to enshrine human remains to pay tribute to the victims of the forced mobilization and to enshrine them in Korea whenever possible based on the success of the ‘Enshrinement of human remains of 74 victims in Tongguksa Temple’, ‘Survey on the enshrinement of human remains in Korea’, and ‘International symposium on the human remains of the victims of the forced mobilization’.
